CUT PIECE by Yoko Ono
Performance at Kunsthal Charlottenborg February 18th, 2018






To commemorate Yoko Ono's 85th birthday and the last day of the extensive exhibition YOKO ONO TRANSMISSION in Kunsthal Charlottenborg, her legendary performance CUT PIECE from 1964 was re-activated by Nana Francisca Schottländer in dialogue with Yoko Ono.
In a durational performance lasting approximately 3 hours, the audience was invited to cut pieces from Nana Francisca Schottländer's wedding dress and send them to someone they loved as a loveletter.
On January 2nd 2018 Post Denmark release two new stamps created by Yoko Ono particularly for the exhibition YOKO ONO TRANSMISSION at Kunsthal Charlottenborg. The audiences attending the performance could send their clippings off as declarations of love in envelopes with these stamps on.
Yoko Ono was born on February 18th 1933 and debuted CUT PIECE in Kyoto in 1964. Since then the piece has been performed in Tokyo, New York, London, Paris and Copenhagen. The piece has evolved throughout the different performances; starting as a statement of abuse, surrender and power it has gradually evolved to also explore generosity, love and the willingness to give your most precious freely.
